A Tavola Celebrate their 1st year in True Italian Style!
We arrived at A Tavola in Madison Square, Liverpool just behind Il Forno which is also run by Maria & Cillo Family. A Tavola is Liverpool’s first Italian deli with a cookery school, wine bar and café. As you arrive even the square feels Italian, with outdoor seating, parasols and patio heaters which of course we needed as it was a bit chilly that night (no surprise there). With people already sitting outside eating and drinking wine, we were enticed inside and immediately offered assorted wines, although for me as I don’t drink it seemed such a waste although my colleague Beth more than made up for me not drinking.
As you enter it’s a very warm and intimate space with the bar, a few tables and chairs to the front, enter further and that’s when you see all the Italian goodies they have for sale. With freshly baked bread and Italian pastries, a variety of Italian meats and cheeses, fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as gluten-free products, vegan ingredients, organic beers, and other premium Italian products.
With drinks in hand, we ventured towards the food and what a sight that was, an amazing selection of Italian canapés prepared freshly that day by the expert teams at A Tavola and Il Forno with cakes and pastries from P&D at Williamson Square. Maria kindly explained the ingredients for each canape as we tucked in trying each canape. I have to say they were all delicious, I even got to try a cannoli – well more than one actually. I’ve been dying to try them since watching Cake Boss (Italian bakery in America) and I’ve got to say they lived up to their hype – Bellissimo! If you love Italian food then why don’t you try your hand at their Italian cookery masterclass.
We were serenaded by an Italian opera singer Michele Power, as he walked around the event singing in Italian whilst we ate and drank. The wine was overflowing and offered at every turn, a real Italian experience. The selection of wines at A Tavola is astounding with over 120 types to choose from, they even hold wine tasting masterclasses which they pair with traditional Italian canapes.
Going back for more desserts the band had started playing, a two piece acoustic band Eli Smart https://www.elismartmusic.com/ and of course Eli is Italian. They had a really chilled out sound, great to listen to when you’re eating and drinking.
The atmosphere for the whole night was chilled and relaxed and of course with a very Italian feel. If you love Italian food and wine with great company get yourself down to A Tavola, there’s something for everyone.
Thank you A Tavola for a lovely night!
